When Egos Clash: WikiLeaks/OpenLeaks and the Battle for LeakyLegitimacy

Whatever we were going to find out about Bank of America … is gone. A former WL’er Daniel Domscheit-Berg has destroyed Five Gigs of Data that included the BoA drop.

Domsheit-Berg claims that he refused to return the data to WikiLeaks because he could not be sure that the data would stay safe. What is meant by that is unknown. What is known is that Domsheit-Berg was No.2 at WikiLeaks, so his defection would be a sore spot and the following statements are perhaps unsurprising:

WikiLeaks is also trying to distance itself from Domscheit-Berg and argues that his “roles within WikiLeaks were limited and started to diminish almost a year ago as his integrity and stability were questioned. […] He is not a founder or co-founder and nor was there any contact with him during the founding years. He did not even have an email address with the organization until 2008 (we launched in December 2006). He cannot program and wrote not a single program for the organization, at any time.”

Children! Children! Can’t we all just get along?
