Sustainable Urban Dwelling Unit

Sometimes people need to go backwards in order to go forwards. There is a building technique called the Timbrel vault that, when combined with rammed-earth structures, can create robust, inexpensive housing in technologically appropriate ways.

The Photo below is the first floor interior of the Sustainable Urban Dwelling Unit (SUDU) – which is intended to address the needs of improving density in urbanizing parts of sub-Saharan Africa, while reducing consumption of scarce materials. Frankly I’d love to live in something like this.
