Austerity is about to meet its Thermopylae.

The Left-Wing in Greece is getting ready to fight the rest of Europe.

“I don’t believe in heroes or saviours,” says Alexis Tsipras, “but I do believe in fighting for rights … no one has the right to reduce a proud people to such a state of wretchedness and indignity.”

    Hmm, I’m not sure that’s a great comparison. By the end of the battle the Greek army was wiped out, Leonides was killed, and the Persian army moved into Greece and promptly sacked Athens. Actually, maybe it is a good comparison, but not one that Alexis Tsipras is likely to find all that comforting.
