Welcome to fortress North America.

In the realm of understatement of the century:

“We recognized early that this approach would raise concerns about sovereignty, of privacy, and civil liberties of Canadians,” RCMP Chief Superintendent Joe Oliver, said before the Senate on May 14th.

What Oliver was talking about was the intention to give FBI, DEA and RCMP recognition in each other’s jurisdictions. This has happened in small increments in recent years but looks to become the status quo under what is called the perimeter security initiative. Yahoo! News service cites a 2011 report from the globe and mail here.
