BP fishing for Scientist Emails?

The requests go back to 2011, they are allegedly connected to BP’s hope to minimize the damage from the Deepwater Horizon spill by refuting government estimates of the volume of oil that hit the Gulf. This has not assuaged fears that BP is also looking for payback and maybe some leverage. Wired reports:

BP has subpoenaed the private emails of scientists who studied the Deepwater Horizon oil catastrophe, stoking fears of misinformation campaigns and researcher intimidation.

According to the Wired article, whether BP is fishing for voices to silence or not, the concern is that the threat of subpoenas and digital interrogation will lead to scientists altering their methods and possibly avoiding looking at disasters of this sort. Aye.
