SCOTUS doesn’t do email …

An AP story covering the interview of Justice Kagan notes that the Justices at SCOTUS communicate by memo walked between parties by a “chambers aide”. In what may be an ironic twist the Supremes in the US may – by virtue of stubborn anachronism – have the most secure office communications system in the world even as they face sitting on cases pertaining to the sanctity of private communication in the digital era. The NSA cannot tap this. I am not sure what level of access the public has to these memos, but the model applies to anyone else seeking to avoid warrantless (or warranted) wire-tapping.
